Scribbls is a veritable smörgåsbord of epic puns, misinformation, and the internets' (yes, plural possessive) finest memes. I thought it might be kind of fun if we take some time out of our busy doodling days to take a look at some cultural practices and/or ideas repeated here on Scribbls from one outcome to another. If people find it interesting, we can keep doing this about once a month on a Monday (always accentuating alliteration).
This Monday, I tackle: TRUTH. No, not in the sense that I'm going to write some Foucault-inspired essay on the inherent power structure biases of objectivity — rather, I want to focus on the Scribbls meme formed around the use of the drawing of TRUTH.
TRUTH itself was drawn by
mattishere #351 on June 12, 2008 as a clear and direct outcome: not + LIES = TRUTH. Little did he know the impact this outcome would have!
Not quite two weeks later
jmullan #10 was the first to re-use the TRUTH drawing in a new outcome to declare a statement of truthiness: Moon landing + TRUTH = Hoax. That is to say, "the truth of the moon landing is that it was a hoax." (Not to beat a dead horse.)
Within just a couple days
Alex #32 started to mold the idea with her meme-hammer. She took somebody's drawing, that distinctly reminded her visually of something else, and drew its true form: Pedophile Shadow Puppets + TRUTH = mutant hands.
From there on out, TRUTH's use as a way of saying "the truth of it is…" or "in truth, that drawing really is a drawing of this…" was pretty much engrained into the collective Scribbls psyche. Just yesterday another fine example of the "that drawing really is this" form of the meme was created by
Saturnyn #1593: Jedi with huge lightsaber + TRUTH = Jedi eating huge piece of bacon.
As of the moment I write this, there are almost 80 additions to the TRUTH outcome, and most of them are part of the evolution of this meme. I suggest you start at the oldest ones. Enjoy!
Wow, great work !
I see what you did there.
This is awesome, thank you!
I'm glad you liked it. It sounds like we should do another next month?
Also, if you'd like to help the Scribbls community out, link to this post or share it with your friends! =)
I enjoy this, it's a Scribbls history class!
Monthly Meme Monday + TRUTH = A good idea
Will every MMM be every 4th Monday?
